I suddenly developed a searing pain below my ribs, just above my stomach, 10 minutes after declaring that the bacon sandwich I had just eaten was 'the most delicious I think I had ever had'. Darn you wonderful tasting breakfast treat.</div><div><br></div><div>I went home on the train crying and doubled over in pain. As it was Christmas Eve the train was packed and I think people presumed I was drunk on merriment and too much prosecco. The same horrendous pain lasted all week up until New Year's Day. Christmas well and truly ruined. </div><div><br></div><div>I went to the doctors on 29th January when they reopened and described my symptoms. I was told it sounded like acid reflux and to take Omeprazole twice a day for a month. Great, I thought, but I wasn't getting any reflux. The pain eased off though and I thought that would be the end of it.</div><div><br></div><div>March rolled around and lo and behold two days before my birthday I developed the same pain again at work. Again I was doubled over with what I can only describe as an acidic, burning feeling sitting in my stomach high up below my ribcage. I was sick numerous times and couldn't stand up straight. My colleagues were understandably worried and paid for a taxi to send me home. I'm so grateful that I didn't have to fend for myself on the train. My birthday rolled around and I couldn't eat anything without vomiting and I was writhing around in pain for six days. </div><div><br></div><div>I saw a different doctor this time and she said the same as the previous, take Omeprazole. I explained I wasn't getting any reflux but because the pain felt acidic and almost 'gurgley' she felt this was the right course of action. In all honesty I was in so much pain I didn't have the energy to try and argue and presumed this would help.</div><div><br></div><div>I got the same pains in June, July and August. Each time getting progressively worse as the pain was now radiating through to my back.</div><div><br></div><div>I was sent for an urgent gastroscopy. This was awful. I decided not to be sedated as it would take less than 10 minutes so I opted for the numbing throat spray instead. This whole procedure was horrendous. I won't go into details but no abnormalities were found except a slight build up of bile at the bottom of my stomach.</div><div><br></div><div>Following this and a few tears at the doctors I was sent for an abdominal ultrasound. This found 'a few small stones' in my gallbladder. This made SO much sense after googling (never do this, the 'you're on your death bed' thoughts sprung up immediately) as gallstone symptoms were exactly what I had been experiencing particularly the pain radiating through to my back with the symptoms returning on and off every few months. </div><div><br></div><div><b><i>Surgery</i></b></div><div>I am very fortunate to have private healthcare through my work. I, along with the help of my incredibly wonderful and patient Mum, got everything sorted to go privately and the ball was rolling almost immediately. I saw a consultant who was lovely and reassuring and my keyhole surgery to remove my gallbladder was booked in for 17 days later.</div><div><br></div><div>This is when the panic kicked in. I had never had surgery before and despite everyone and their cat telling me I would be fine I couldn't help but worry that I wouldn't wake up or that I would wake up MID surgery. </div><div><br></div><div>But, everyone is right. Going under general anaesthetic is oddly a non-event. The lovely nursing team held my hand and were so incredibly patient. They were talking to me about beach holidays and the next thing I know I'm awake and the surgery complete. I was groggy and confused for about four or five hours but I was discharged the same evening and was allowed home to my own bed. </div><div><br></div><div><b><i>Recovery</i></b></div><div>I was advised to take two weeks off work for recovery which was most definitely needed. The following morning I couldn't pull myself up to rearrange the pillows, I couldn't stand up straight when walking to the bathroom and I had to sleep on my back for the first week. I didn't feel sick though which was good as I can't imagine having to suddenly leap out of bed. Ouch. </div><div><br></div><div>I had four separate wounds. One in the middle below my ribcage, one on my navel and two to the right of this. They were all so much smaller than I imagined and the nurse seemed pleased with how they looked when I left the hospital. </div><div><br></div><div>I am now two weeks in to recovery and I feel much better than I did 12 days ago. My wounds are still covered in the glue they put on after surgery. I was advised not to get them too wet for the first few days and to dry them delicately wth kitchen towel. Since then I have been careful too but showering normally. </div><div><br></div><div>I have been eating a normal diet since surgery but trying to keep it low in fat. As the gallbladder is no longer there working to break down fats, my liver is now constantly dripping bile into my intestine and I don't want it to overwork. Although the chocolates that friends and family have kindly bought me have gone down a treat so there has been some fat in my diet!</div><div><br></div><div>I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon on Monday and I have my fingers and toes crossed that he thinks surgery went ok and that I'm making good progress.</div><div><br></div><div>To anyone in a similar position having the same symptoms I had in the last 10 months, I advise you consider having surgery to remove your gallbladder. The pain, if like mine, is a million times worse than waking up from the anaesthetic dazed and confused. </div><div><br></div><div>I hope this has helped answer some questions you may have been wondering or worrying about prior to surgery.</div><div><br></div><div>Alex </div><div><br></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11711092366603373545noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3050410850870066239.post-37334044089393433012016-02-16T22:10:00.002+00:002016-02-16T22:12:10.098+00:00A Very Important Date<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<i><a href="http://www.afternoontea.co.uk/uk/london/oxford-street/sanderson-hotel/" target="_blank">The Sanderson Hotel</a> - Oxford Street. From £48</i><br />
<br />
Not long ago I mentioned my love for Afternoon Tea and those feelings have most certainly been re-confirmed recently.<br />
<br />
Not that I ever doubted they had left.<br />
<br />
My best friend and I have missed eachother's birthdays in the last year as she has been gallivanting all around the globe - leaving me behind in dreary England - and she will soon be heading off on another adventure. In a double celebration, come farewell, we decided to treat ourselves to an afternoon filled with tea, mini sandwiches and cakes for days. This was all with a wonderful, magical twist. It was Alice in Wonderland themed.<br />
<br />
The Sanderson Hotel has been hosting this affair for a little while now and my lovely friend Gemma first introduced it to me a couple of years ago. I don't know why it took me so long to pay a visit.<br />
<br />
It comprised of all the usual offerings of an afternoon tea - pretty china, a selection of teas and the (obligatory) option of having Champagne *raises hand*. There was so much detail it really felt like we had fallen down the rabbit hole.<br />
<br />

<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tb7mJB_oTho/VqlGAN2LUdI/AAAAAAAAA9o/zuvdZUR8yNY/s1600/AfternoonTea6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tb7mJB_oTho/VqlGAN2LUdI/AAAAAAAAA9o/zuvdZUR8yNY/s640/AfternoonTea6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We both chose the 'Queen of Hearts' tea followed by a second (and possibly a third) round of the miniature Croque Monsieur. Well if they're going to offer! We were in fried bread and melted cheese heaven. These photographs really don't do all the details justice. The staff were incredibly welcoming and did a good job in encouraging us to have a second round of, well, everything.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Iq5IC50YRJA/VqlF5BoPtPI/AAAAAAAAA9Y/2YEoWdcPZDE/s1600/AfternoonTea3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Iq5IC50YRJA/VqlF5BoPtPI/AAAAAAAAA9Y/2YEoWdcPZDE/s640/AfternoonTea3.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The final round of treats consisted of marshmallow toad-stalls, mini banana cake and a delicious mango smoothie in an adorable glass bottle with a 'Drink Me' on it. You don't need to tell me twice.<br />
<br />
This is the perfect place for a celebration, ideal for Mother's Day coming up. I know my mum would love the sweet details, especially being able to see and smell the tea before choosing as she is a bit of a tea connoisseur. <br />
<br />
<i><u>Top Tip </u></i><br />
If you have the choice, definitely try and get a table in the pretty courtyard outside - It has a much better atmosphere than inside which looked a little dark and dingy. With the outdoor heaters you'll never know it's mid February and -2 degrees!<br />

Christmas has gone, it's cold and supermarkets are wishing the year away as Easter eggs come on sale as soon as the New Year's Eve fireworks are complete. (QQ: what is that about?)<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For the last three years, Jonny and I have gone on mini adventures for our Anniversary, brightening up the start of the year. So far we have been to Paris, Edinburgh and this year we took ourselves off to Dublin. I feel like we have nailed the long weekend away now, focusing more on the location of the hotel rather than the room itself and booking last minute to get the best deals - £24 return flights, anyone? Oh yes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>I loved this card I found Jonny for our anniversary. Scribbler's finest.</i></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We stayed at <a href="http://www.templebarinn.com/" target="_blank">Temple Bar Inn</a> on recommendation from a friend and I didn't realise quite how central it was until we got lost and discovered how far afield we had walked by mistake. It's a fun, modern hotel with THE comfiest bed I have ever experienced which made for tricky early wake ups. We were round the corner from all the sights and must sees, Trinity College, Ha'penny Bridge and Grafton Street which had a department store that even Jonny didn't mind window shopping in. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We found a couple of sweet little cafes for breakfast each morning and tasted potentially the best coffee in a place called Bean Hive. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, as all the Irish tend to be, and we were a little sad we hadn't discovered it on our first day.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We decided to go all out on our first evening and have dinner on the other side of the River Liffey in a place called <a href="http://winding-stair.com/" target="_blank">The Winding Stair</a>. After climbing the creaky staircase you reach the Cosy shabby chic restaurant with the perfect setting overlooking the river. For once I wasn't the one with food envy as I chose pork terrine followed by the most delicious roast chicken with polenta chips and gravy. Simple but perfect for the cold wintry evening.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OgOKrd9Mee8/Vqk6eCVIZwI/AAAAAAAAA6k/CGEImkKyecU/s1600/P1010120.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OgOKrd9Mee8/Vqk6eCVIZwI/AAAAAAAAA6k/CGEImkKyecU/s640/P1010120.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The following night we ate at a burger place called <a href="http://www.thecounterburger.com/dublin_dundrum/" target="_blank">The Counter</a> where you can customise your own burger from scratch. Perfect for trying out something you wouldn't normally dare to add. It was a great little find, I just wish there were others around the UK. I was too engrossed in the food and completely forgot to snap some photos. You're going to have to believe me when I say it was good.<br />
<br />
We couldn't go to Dublin and not visit the <a href="https://www.guinness-storehouse.com/en" target="_blank">Guinness Storehouse</a>. It was such a lovely sunny (albeit cold) day so we walked there and back from our hotel. Even if you don't like Guinness it was an interesting place to stroll round.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OkSGMqFbyBk/Vqk59eOmKLI/AAAAAAAAA54/RB8zSGUwmlk/s1600/P1010096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OkSGMqFbyBk/Vqk59eOmKLI/AAAAAAAAA54/RB8zSGUwmlk/s640/P1010096.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Please excuse the glare - There was nothing stopping that sunshine!</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
You each get a coupon for a free pint of Guinness (score!) and Jonny and I decided to learn how to pour our own. It was great fun learning how to do it the proper way and to top it all off we enjoyed it from the Gravity Bar which showcased a beautiful 360 degree view on the sunny day we lucked out on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I would love to re-visit Dublin in the summer when we can make the most of St Stephan's Green and stroll around in the slightly warmer weather. It's such a beautiful, small and welcoming city and I would definitely stay at Temple Bar Inn again in the future.<br />

Seems straight forward enough but I am also queen of excuses.<div><br></div><div>I bought myself a new nifty camera - one that won't weigh me down when browsing exciting cities but one that takes non blurry photos, hurrah! So I will most certainly be putting it to good use on this blog and posting as regularly as I can!</div><div><br></div><div>I'm heading to Dublin next weekend and I can't wait to document it for you. I love Afternoon Tea. What's better than having a pot of tea followed by sandwiches and scones and then more sandwiches if you're feeling particularly peckish and finally finished off with some mini desserts. All whilst served on pretty China with minute jam pots and a sweet little cake stand that I have to resist not taking home with me. It's ok, I settle with taking all the desserts I couldn't quite manage home with me instead. It's so quintessentially British and quaint. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qsdiYvviOQ4/VZmdk_B61jI/AAAAAAAAA1w/f1KepJd-_iY/s640/blogger-image-593879547.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qsdiYvviOQ4/VZmdk_B61jI/AAAAAAAAA1w/f1KepJd-_iY/s640/blogger-image-593879547.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My Grandmother treated my mum on her birthday to Afternoon Tea at <a href="http://www.roslinhotel.com/" target="_blank">The Roslin Hotel</a> by the sea. Luckily for my brother and I we were invited along too. It was during the heat wave we had last week and we had a perfect spot by the window with a beautiful view. Plus we decided to throw a bottle of champagne into the proceedings too. As my mum put it, 'it would be rude not to!'. </div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qoJitwvDI_4/VZmkqWLqoHI/AAAAAAAAA3o/tVXr4q3aDbA/s1600/A2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qoJitwvDI_4/VZmkqWLqoHI/AAAAAAAAA3o/tVXr4q3aDbA/s640/A2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
If anyone lives in the area I would highly recommend this hotel especially on a sunny day with a glass of bubbly. The location and choice of food, not to mention the spa treatments is has to offer is brilliant. The only minor gripe I had with the selection of tasty miniature offerings was the raisins in the scones. My plate looked like a raisin graveyard. Please think of those who like their scones <em>sans</em> raisins - Thanking you kindly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>

Afternoon Tea wasn't the only sweet treat of the day. I ensured my Mum started her day with cake too as I bought her some delicious <a href="https://hummingbirdbakery.com/" target="_blank">Hummingbird Bakery</a> cupcakes. Red Velvet, Black Bottom and Carrot Cake. It's safe to say we were full to the brim by the end of the day but definitely worth it. If not on your birthday then when can you? </div>

On a fashion side note, I made the most of the unusually hot weather and wore a <a href="http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?searchTermScope=3&searchType=ALL&viewAllFlag=false&beginIndex=1&langId=-1&productId=19773484&pageSize=20&searchTerm=TS10S02IBLK&catalogId=33057&productIdentifierproduct=product&geoip=search&x=25&searchTermOperator=LIKE&sort_field=Relevance&y=11&storeId=12556&qubitRefinements=siteId%3DTopShopUK" target="_blank">Topshop floral midi dress</a> with tie side detail . Unfortunately I didn't get a successful shot of the dress (Mother dearest isn't too snap happy but as it was her birthday I forgave her!) so please excuse this candid photograph. It's slightly out of my comfort zone as I wouldn't normally choose something quite so bold but I absolutely love the side detail with the contrasting pretty print. <br />

I find it all a bit stressful. Traipsing the shops with something in mind only to come home empty handed and disappointed is not my idea of fun. Last minute is more my thing.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Wedding guest shopping on the other hand, I ruddy love! I don't know if it's the novelty of dressing up for a different occasion or the wedding itself but either way I love scrolling my way through the 'occasion wear' section on ASOS and flicking my way through the rails in Topshop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v_8RKXd5ZNg/VZrucisCqqI/AAAAAAAAA4g/FMVYR_VdGks/s1600/GT.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v_8RKXd5ZNg/VZrucisCqqI/AAAAAAAAA4g/FMVYR_VdGks/s1600/GT.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My friend Tasha married her fiancé last weekend in the most beautiful ceremony and seaside themed reception so of course I needed a suitable ensemble. I am of a, let's say, porcelain complexion and have never dreamed of being a bronzed goddess but for once I decided to embrace my auburn hair and freckle-a-plenty face and chose an orangey-red midi dress. Scrolling for hours paid off, hurrah! </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The <a href="http://www.asos.com//ASOS/ASOS-Wiggle-Dress-in-Crepe-with-Open-Wrap-Back-and-D-Ring/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4898086" target="_blank">midi style</a> suited the formal occasion and the backless detail and bold colour added an edge. I was actually surprised at how comfortable I felt in it and I'm now eagerly waiting for another event to wear it to. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p7HCVEz-1Z4/VZrr1ypnqWI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/sPyMtP3lyf0/s1600/ME.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p7HCVEz-1Z4/VZrr1ypnqWI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/sPyMtP3lyf0/s1600/ME.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
</div>
<div>
I had been eyeing up the <a href="http://www.asos.com/aldo/aldo-danenberg-leather-metal-heeled-court-shoes/prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4994051&clr=Bone&SearchQuery=aldo+heels&pgesize=33&pge=0&totalstyles=33&gridsize=3&gridrow=4&gridcolumn=2" target="_blank">Aldo</a> pointy heels for a fair while, adding them to my ASOS basket months in advance before plucking up the courage to part with the money. But I'm so glad I did as I absolutely love them. The metallic heel and nude leather worked so perfectly with the vibrant dress. Plus I was able to thriftily recycle the nude bag and fascinator that I wore to Gemma's wedding. Outfit compete! Did my feet feel the same level of affection for the shoes? Erm, no. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MPNB3yr-pJ0/VY2bZzwkTFI/AAAAAAAAA0U/6K6AxLEuZNA/s640/blogger-image--1086396602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MPNB3yr-pJ0/VY2bZzwkTFI/AAAAAAAAA0U/6K6AxLEuZNA/s640/blogger-image--1086396602.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Of course the only dress everyone was looking out for was the bride's and good heavens it was beautiful. Such a simple but elegant design and Tasha looked perfect. The bridesmaids looked beautiful in blue and mirrored Tasha's dress with the low cut v neckline. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm sad the celebrations are over so I can only imagine how the bride and groom are feeling. Congratulations Tasha & Greg!</div>

When I was little we would holiday in Devon or Cornwall almost every year so my summer holiday memories were quintessentially British but besides that I haven't ventured much further afield.<br>
<br>
For our 3 year anniversary, Jonny and I decided to visit Edinburgh. A few people I know plus a couple of bloggers had recently been and only had good things to say so we booked the short flight, a well-priced little hotel near the castle and we were away.<br>
<br>
We took the tram from the airport to the city centre and luckily for us it stopped right outside our hotel, <a href="http://cityroomz.com/" target="_blank">Cityroomz</a>. We had booked this hotel on a bit of a whim, not really sure where the ideal location would be but we were pleasantly surprised. It was modern, right in the heart of the city and most importantly, warm. It turns out Scotland really is as cold as people make out - especially in January.<br>
<br>
We took a stroll to Edinburgh castle. I say a stroll, I mean a climb. WARNING: Edinburgh is hilly. Unfortunately we reached the castle an hour before closing so we only had time to wonder around the main areas. If you are planning on visiting I would definitely recommend allowing 2 hours to see everything - The views are incredible and we were lucky enough to go on a fresh clear afternoon so could see for miles.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1YbIvhbw3bs/VNDstS4zaxI/AAAAAAAAAy8/bO2VfkVCuZA/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1YbIvhbw3bs/VNDstS4zaxI/AAAAAAAAAy8/bO2VfkVCuZA/s1600/photo%2B1.JPG" height="480" width="640"></a></div>
<br>
The following day we decided to walk down the Royal Mile to Arthur's Seat. As we turned the corner and saw the main peak of the group of hills which form Holyrood Park I started to question my Nike trainers. Walking boots seemed to be a more fitting choice of shoe on first glance. We didn't reach the summit but the views from half way were still very impressive and we enjoyed the scenery with a much deserved Mars bar.<br>
<br>

<br>
The architecture really reminded me of Paris with its grand Georgian Terraces in the new town and the nooks and crannies in the old town. Behind Princes Street, in and amongst all of the higher end shops we stumbled across a really pretty looking restaurant called <a href="http://gustorestaurants.uk.com/restaurants/edinburgh/" target="_blank">Gusto</a>. It had fairly lights covering the outside and looked so pretty that we booked a table for dinner and I'm so glad we did. We sat upstairs above the kitchen so we could nosy at all of the orders going out. I had serious food envy though as Jonny had chosen pan seared duck breast with all kinds of delicious looking sides. We had such a lovely meal and it was even better that we had booked it on an off chance that it might be worthwhile and it definitely was.<br>

<br>
Edinburgh is such a beautiful, friendly city and we have already planned to go back in the Summer for the Fringe Festival. I'm looking forward to re-visiting when the climate's a little less harsh!<br>

But, for once, 2014 exceeded my expectations and it was a very busy year. It was one of travelling from cold climates to humid along with some lovely catch ups with old chums.<br />
<br />
<i><b>January</b></i><br />
<br />
2 years with Jonny was celebrated with a weekend away in Paris. We did all the classic touristy things, saw the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, had chocolate crepes... It was such a lovely 2 days exploring the city - or should I say walking for miles and getting lost. But what a beautiful city to get well and truly lost in.<br />

<i><b>February</b></i><br />
<br />
A slightly more unusual venture this month to Iceland with my travel buddy, Ness. As previously mentioned I wasn't sure what to expect on this long weekend away as we had jam packed it full of adventures and exploring from seeing the Northern Lights to snorkeling in 2 degree water. It was the most incredible 4 days and I am dying to go back. Since we have been a few of my friends have also visited and felt the same love for it as we did. Maybe another visit will be on the cards soon.<br />

<br />
<i><b>March</b></i><br />
<br />
I turned the grand old age of 23 and spent the day in Brighton with Jonny. I had only been once before on a fleeting visit and drive along the seafront so this time we got to explore The Lanes and the penny machines on the pier. I decided then and there that I'd like a little (huge) house along the seafront one day. I can dream, right?<br />
<br />
<br />
<i><b>July</b></i><br />
<br />
My lovely friend Gemma tied the knot with her husband Mat in the prettiest of ceremonies (and most gorgeous dress might I add). Such a lovely day and the rain even held off for photographs. Perfect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Igs8j56ww2Q/VKl7TcBV8xI/AAAAAAAAAxM/1mvhn9WlvY0/s1600/10525808_10152318016527842_1664757734460528305_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Igs8j56ww2Q/VKl7TcBV8xI/AAAAAAAAAxM/1mvhn9WlvY0/s1600/10525808_10152318016527842_1664757734460528305_n.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Also in July, my bestest pal Ness started her year off around the world and 2 weeks later I joined her in Vietnam. At the start of the year I never would have imagined that I would be brave enough to board a flight on my own to meet my friends half way across the globe. I was so proud of myself - even though I did shed a little tear saying bye to my parents fearing that I'd get lost going through security at Heathrow let alone make it in once piece in Hanoi.<br />
<br />
We traveled all the way from the North, along the East Coast down to Saigon in the South. It wasn't a 5* getaway with 18 hour bus rides, long ferry journeys and trekking for what felt like miles trying to find a hostel, but I wouldn't have changed it for anything and it has made me want to see more of Asia and explore that side of the world.<br />
<br />
Vietnam is such a beautiful country, filled to the brim with the most friendly of people and hundreds upon thousands of scooters. I'm so grateful that I was able to visit and see it for myself.<br />

<b><i>September</i></b><br />
<br />
A little getaway to Majorca at the end of this month was an added bonus to an already travel busy year. It was an ideal holiday to finish off the Summer months on a very picturesque little island, regardless of the rather temperamental weather we experienced.<br />
<br />

<br />
This post is mainly a little reflection for me as the year went by in a flash so it's nice to see that I actually did something with the 12 months! Here's to 2015 being equally as exciting and memorable.<br />

<br />
We stayed at <a href="http://www.thecountyhotelbath.co.uk/" target="_blank">The County Hotel</a> and I can't begin to explain how lovely it was. From the location to the view from our window, everything was perfect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It was only a 5 minute stroll to the main part of town and there we were spoilt for choice on places to eat. Having said that we ate at Bill's which although now a trendy place to dine, neither of us had been before so we decided to give it a go! The burger (surprise, surprise) didn't disappoint and neither did the sneaky little glass of wine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uOCnT9NRewg/U-1BViy8QPI/AAAAAAAAAts/2lS402l3AJQ/s1600/BATH7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uOCnT9NRewg/U-1BViy8QPI/AAAAAAAAAts/2lS402l3AJQ/s1600/BATH7.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It was a beautiful evening and we saw Bath in all it's pretty glory. The next day it poured down so it's a good job we took photographs when we did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P2ejMzTdiM8/U-1BVqQzwII/AAAAAAAAAtc/go5fefltAr0/s1600/BATH6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P2ejMzTdiM8/U-1BVqQzwII/AAAAAAAAAtc/go5fefltAr0/s1600/BATH6.jpg" /></a></div>

<br />
The following morning we went to the famous baths. They were right in the centre of the town which isn't at all how I imagined them. They didn't disappoint though and we spent hours wondering around listening to the audio describing each section of the historical setting. It's crazy to think that they haven't yet discovered all of the baths and they could still be lying beneath the streets of the city. I'd like to go back in years to come and see what else has been excavated.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M7bEvYcNWfE/U-1BPD9RTdI/AAAAAAAAAsY/hW5Yh2B28TM/s1600/BATH11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-M7bEvYcNWfE/U-1BPD9RTdI/AAAAAAAAAsY/hW5Yh2B28TM/s1600/BATH11.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
We couldn't go to Bath and not walk to see the Royal Crescent. I didn't realise it would be such a climb but it was worth it as the Red Arrows flew over in formation just as we collapsed on the green in the photo above. I didn't manage to get a photo of them but they seemed to arrive just in time as the sky took a turn for the worse.<br />
<br />
That night we went for a dinner at a place called <a href="http://stablepizza.com/" target="_blank">The Stable</a> which had been recommended to us. They have a few restaurants that are mainly located on the South Coast. Heading downstairs into what felt like a cosy basement we were lucky enough to get the last table. Jonny was over the moon at the idea of getting 5 randomly selected ciders to taste while I was more interested in the crazy pizza toppings on offer. In the end I went with roast lamb with sweet potato and caramelised onions. Pretty much a roast dinner on a pizza, it doesn't get much better than that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I would definitely recommend The Stable if you're visiting Bath, great location and even better grub.<br />
<br />
All in all a beautiful city which I would recommend to everyone and I'm hoping for another visit next summer.<br />

My best friend is off travelling around the world for 15 months beginning in Asia so I couldn't ignore the idea of visiting her along the way. Vietnam was thrown into a conversation one evening and it was set, I would be flying out to see her for 2 weeks to explore the country from Hanoi all the way down to Ho Chi Minh City in the South.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1eykAnjF40E/U-jVrsL59iI/AAAAAAAAAr0/sQ4LQ0onpPE/s1600/10013674_10154426077270623_8444442284749639171_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1eykAnjF40E/U-jVrsL59iI/AAAAAAAAAr0/sQ4LQ0onpPE/s1600/10013674_10154426077270623_8444442284749639171_n.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
On previous trips we have organised everything down to a T from transport to hotels to day trips. This time we decided to be more relaxed and we planned as we went, booking sleeper buses and hostels from recommendations we heard along the way. This meant that if we wanted to stay somewhere for longer because we loved the city or wanted to put off a long journey for lazy purposes then we could.<br />
<br />
It was the most fun (and most humid) two weeks so I wanted to jot down a few pointers for people thinking of traveling to this side of the world. Things that I found helpful and things that I wish I had taken!<br />
<br />
1. <b><i>Injections</i></b><br />
Arrgghh. Not what you want to be thinking of when you're planning an exciting holiday. Going to Vietnam I needed a Hepatitis A and Typhoid inoculation. These were done on the NHS free of charge and I was lucky enough not to need to splash out on Malaria tablets as we were sticking to the East coast. Make sure you read up on what you do and don't need, different nurses may give you different options.<br />
<br />
2. <b><i>Rucksack with a front opening</i></b><br />
Ok, so this is more of a luxury than a necessity. Rummaging around in a 6 person dorm at 2 in the morning trying desperately trying to find your toothbrush and toothpaste is not the one. I invested in a rucksack which I could open from the front so I could see everything in the bag. I like to think I'm a patient person but not being able to locate something in my bag easily and quickly is something I like to avoid. I bought this lovely <a href="http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/lowe-alpine-tfx-kongur-nd-65-75-p203624?gclid=CjwKEAjw9qafBRCRiYrL4-fpuFkSJACvocQ1s9DSsPfX0bnJqZE5t722Oj4s6I2r4VECqS_1RD9uFhoCMC_w_wcB" target="_blank">Lowe Alpine number</a>. God bless you <strike>little</strike> huge bag.<br />
<br />
3. <b><i>A good camera</i></b><br />
My biggest regret is not taking my Canon 500D D SLR. I decided to pack light and was worried that my camera would get damaged or stolen as we were staying in hostels and had numerous sleeper bus journeys. If I could go back I would definitely pack this camera - The quality absolutely outweighs the pain it would have been to carry around everywhere. If like me you love taking photographs and documenting your journeys then don't even hesitate to take the best camera you own!<br />
<br />
4. <b><i>Write down & listen to recommendations</i></b><br />
Going without a plan is exciting and spontaneous. That is until you have to decide the next stop and have no idea where to go or stay. We chatted to a lot of people we met in our hostels who had already done the journey we were planning to do and this was a great opportunity to get recommendations of great places to stay and where to avoid! This is not only a sociable way of meeting people but it also saves time and attempting to find WiFi for researching purposes.<br />
<br />
5. <b><i>Money App</i></b><br />
Getting money out for the first time in Vietnam there was slight confusion to say the least. The currency is so huge with 35,000 dong equating to £1 so paying 100,000 dong to get a bus to our hotel I felt like I was being robbed. To save time and embarrassment in restaurants and shops I used the <a href="http://www.xe.com/apps/iphone/" target="_blank">XE currency app </a>which meant I could work out how much I was spending with the click of a button.<br />
<br />
A few handy hints and tips here to make your trip that little bit smoother!<br />

British Summer Time, you devious little thing. One minute there's blue sky and no breeze the next there's gale force winds and a weather warning. Ok, I joke - slightly - but the British weather is definitely something you have to get used to. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Take this particular morning for example, I initially went for a skirt and blouse combo but stepping out of my front door I realised that bare legs just wouldn't cut it. It did however, give me a chance to debut this sweatshirt from H&M. Whistles have a number of these slogan sweatshirts on the go at the moment but the price tag of this H&M one was far more suited to me. I rarely wear white due to my 'Casper-like' complexion but paired with dark jeans and a collared blouse it works well. Perfect for a Summer evening layering piece too.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The chilly weather didn't stop us from eating al-fresco and devouring this amazing Meatball Focaccia from Strada. Not the best choice of meal given the colour of my jumper. Live and learn!</div>

<br />
At the beginning of the year I wrote about my impending trip to Iceland. I have now been back for over 2 months and am yet to write about it. Slap on wrist for me. It is definitely the most incredible place I have visited so far so I want to share some of the things we did and what I would recommend if you are visiting the beautiful country.<br />
<br />
In the last two years I have been lucky enough to visit a fair few cities around Europe with my travelling chum, Ness and we were trying to think of somewhere different to tick off our list. Iceland initially came up as we both wanted to see the Northern Lights and heard that mid February would be an ideal opportunity to see them. We booked the flights, Northern Lights excursion, a diving trip (i'll explain later!) and we were on our way.<br />
<br />
When we arrived at Keflavik airport the weather was dull, grey and colder than we had anticipated. Luckily for us the weather picked up and we had glorious sunshine for the rest of the trip, making for perfect scenic shots and ideal Northern Lights conditions. We had picked our hotel on a whim, not really sure what to go for but <a href="http://www.fosshotel.is/hotels/fosshotel-in-reykjavik/fosshotel-baron/" target="_blank">Fosshotel Baron</a> exceeded our expectations. It was incredibly warm and the smell of waffles hit us as we walked in - what more could you want?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gClpR33_hqU/U2ljDodKyAI/AAAAAAAAAnE/mAKYBXLIDC8/s1600/IMG_0398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gClpR33_hqU/U2ljDodKyAI/AAAAAAAAAnE/mAKYBXLIDC8/s1600/IMG_0398.JPG" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>A view from Reykjavik highstreet looking into the harbour</i></div>
<br />
On our first night we indulged in a Northern Lights excursion. A coach picked us up from our hotel and we drove to a remote golf course just outside of Reykjavik. I was so prepared with my DSLR ready on my tripod but we fully expected not to see anything - We had been told countless times not to get our hopes up as there is only a 1 in 10 chance of witnessing the lights. It was freezing cold and everyone's mood had dampened slightly having not seen anything but an hour in someone could see soft greens and pinks on the horizon. It was incredible to see and actually hard to take in. Our numb hands and the long wait were definitely worth it as the Aurora Borealis moved beautifully across the sky.<br />
<br />
I did take a couple of shots that we were so happy and excited with (at the time) but now they look a little, for want of a better word, rubbish. The tripod I took wasn't sturdy enough for the strong gale but we still managed to capture some of the light nonetheless!<br />
<br />

<i>The (slightly blurred) Northern Lights</i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><br /></i></div>
The following morning was the start of an adventure packed day. A company called <a href="http://www.dive.is/" target="_blank">Dive.is</a> picked us up from our hotel at 9am to take us snorkeling in the Silfra Fissure and to explore the Golden Circle. I'm going to be honest I wasn't completely sold on this idea to start with, in fact I was scared. Having never snorkeled anywhere before combined with the thought of snorkeling in 2 degree water I thought we were crazy. Oh how wrong I was.<br />
<br />
Firstly the drive to the Fissure was incredible. The scenery was breathtaking and luckily for us the sun was shining all day making the dive even more spectacular.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>The view on the journey to the National Park</i></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvLb24UXKK0/U0-mrgT9emI/AAAAAAAAAls/sis4gCRLcyU/s1600/1891000_10153793649040623_188340628_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HvLb24UXKK0/U0-mrgT9emI/AAAAAAAAAls/sis4gCRLcyU/s1600/1891000_10153793649040623_188340628_n.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We arrived at Thingvellir National Park and were given our snorkeling equipment which included a very warm all in one body suit underneath a very watertight (and a little claustrophobic) dry suit. The location of the snorkeling, the Silfra Fissure is actually a gap between the North American and Eurasian continents so you are swimming between two Continental plates. Pretty cool.<br />
<br />
After thorough instructions we put on our flippers, donned our snorkels and climbed down into the absolutely freezing water. The dry suit did keep most of the warmth in and we were told not to move our hands too much to conserve warmth and to use our feet to kick us along instead. Of course, I used my hands and they were numb within minutes! The water was crystal clear and we could see the divers below us exploring the Silfra Cathedral and Silfra Lagoon.<br />
<br />
We took a waterproof camera with us to capture the views for ourselves and our fetching ensembles.<br />

<br />
We were given the best mug of hot chocolate I've ever experienced and proceeded on with our tour of the Golden Circle. Our lovely tour guide took us to see Gullfoss, a powerful waterfall which is part of the Golden Circle. The noise it created and general size of it was staggering and we were so lucky with the weather conditions, walking down to take photos a rainbow had formed over the mist.<br />

<br />
Finally we visited the Geysir which contains two active geysirs. One of the geysirs erupts every 4-6 minutes which I didn't know, so to see boiling water shooting hundreds of feet into the air was pretty spectacular. The sulfuric smell took a little getting used to though!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Panoramic of the Geysirs</i></div>
<br />
I can't even begin to explain how brilliant the experience was from start to finish. The tour guides were lovely and so professional - I'm surprised they didn't get annoyed at us constantly asking so many questions! I'm not one to push my limits but I would definitely recommend this whole trip. It's a little pricey but with so much included it's worth every penny.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Our final day consisted of a relaxing visit to the Blue Lagoon - a geothermal spa. Again we were picked up from our hotel which was so convenient and included the entry to the spa. We spent a little more than the standard day spa price and treated ourselves to some toweling robes - Highly recommended as getting out of the lovely warm water into the Icelandic air isn't a pleasant experience!<br />

One thing I learnt is DON'T put your hair in the water. I had to wash my hair three times before a brush could actually glide through my hair again. Tie your hair up and you can avoid my silly mistake.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Again, the Blue Lagoon is something I would recommend doing, if only to say you've been there. The warm milky water, combined with the delicious sparkling wine which we may have indulged in, made it such a lovely relaxing day. This was definitely a luxurious treat for the end of a jam-packed weekend. </div>

<br />
I would love to go back one day at a different time of the year and explore some more. One thing we didn't do was see any of the wildlife so I'd like to go whale watching and puffin watching next time.<br />
<br />
Time to start saving.<br />

</div>
For me, going out in 'the city' on a Friday night is a pretty novel experience. I only work in London on the occasional Friday so it's nice to make the most of being in that neck of the woods. When my colleagues Gemma and Clare suggested we venture to a nice restaurant for dinner and drinks as a belated birthday do for me I couldn't wait.<br />
<br />
After a few ideas were thrown around by Gemma we decided on <a href="http://www.thedriftbar.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Drift Bar</a> in Heron Tower - A quirky bar and restaurant not far from Liverpool Street. I would definitely recommend booking a table in advance as it was jam packed with young city workers looking for a cocktail to ease themselves into the weekend.<br />
<br />
After ordering a bottle of Prosecco, it was a special occasion afterall, we set about the difficult task of ordering mains. I say difficult but I'm a big fan of the burger, wherever I go I can never stray away from either a chicken or beef burger and it seems this day was no exception. I had initially set my sights on the Club Sandwhich because that's oh so different. But alas no I went for the classic beef burger and I'm sad to say I was disappointed. It was a bit greasy and soggy and the brioche bun collapsed in my hands. Thank heavens this wasn't a first date scenario.<br />
<br />
Three out of four of us decided on a sandwich/ burger and for being so adventurous(!) we accompanied our order with a trio of delicious fries. These weren't just any fries, oh no, they were as fancy as they come. <i style="font-weight: bold;">Roman Fries </i><i>with parmesan, truffle and rosemary, <b>Cowboy Fries</b> with honey, chili and garlic </i>and <i><b>Katsu Fries</b> with Japanese curry sauce. </i>I soon shotgunned the Roman Fries and kept them close by during the soggy burger fiasco. They were truly delicious and I'd quite like these with every burger I ever have.<br />
<br />
The atmosphere was brilliant although I definitely found myself shouting at points. The general buzz of the place made it the perfect place for cocktails which is exactly what we did next. I do enjoy a dessert and my guilty pleasure of Creme Brulee was on the menu but the <i>Love Potion</i> cocktail served in a sweet little jug was a pretty good alternative so I soon got over the lack of pud.<br />
<br />
I would definitely recommend The Drift Bar for evening drinks and for food during the quieter periods so you can make conversation with the person across the table from you.<br />
<br />
Top Tip - Avoid the burger and go for one of the other mains, someone should be adventurous!<br />

It's only recently that I have been really impressed with their service and what they have to offer. In the past I have been let down with un-realistic delivery times and poor quality products but I'm pleased to say this view has been turned around.<br />
<br />
At the tail end of January with Valentine's Day on the horizon I started to rack my brain for a different kind of gift for the boyfriend. I set my mind on something personalised to make it more special and after scrolling through pages and pages of cuff links I found a brilliant seller with a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Gx2homegrown?ref=pr_shop_more" target="_blank">shop</a> full of custom made hip flasks.<br />
<br />
I loved all of the handmade leather designs with the additional offering of personalisation for no extra fee. The prices ranged from £35 to £40 which I thought was great for the quality so I couldn't resist. I selected the design I wanted - after much deliberation - and in a note to the seller I picked the font and lettering to be etched onto the hip flask. Within 24 hours Gemma had replied and ran me through her timescale so I knew when I would receive the finished article.<br />
<br />
Me being me, I had ordered the flask 14 days before Valentine's Day and Gemma's turnaround was roughly 2 weeks so it was pushing it to be delivered on time! I mentioned this in an email to her and she said she would try her best, keeping me updated on the progress. I had a nice surprise when I came home from work on 13th February to find it had been delivered. Amazing!<br />
<br />
I am so impressed with the speedy, friendly service and attention to detail on the product I ordered. I would highly recommend a browse on Gemma's shop for a quirky well made gift. Just brilliant!<br />

<div style="position: relative;">
<br /></div>
<div style="position: relative;">
<br /></div>
<div style="position: relative;">
My birthday is fast approaching and to sooth the pain of turning 23 I decided to put together a birthday wish list. I'm such a trooper.<br />
It feels like Christmas has only just been and gone so there isn't a great deal I'm loving at the moment. Instead there are a few bits that I 'need'. Floral suitcases and nude heels are <i>definitely</i> needed at this time of year what are you talking about?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><a href="http://www.asos.com/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=3908078" target="_blank">Gold Frame Pinboard</a></i></div>
<br />
I'm forever wanting to stick things on my walls - tickets, Polaroid photographs, memos and keep sakes but as my bedroom is still only newly decorated I don't want to ruin the walls with blu tac. I'm still scarred from having to painstakingly peel off a whole wall's worth of blue tac from my uni room.<br />
So hurrah! I have found this brilliant alternative. A cork board is ideal for pinning anything up but when I stumbled across this on the 'New In' section on ASOS I immediately added it to my 'I must have this' list in my mind. It's such a cool twist on a classic pin board and makes a cluster of West End and Harry Potter Studio Tour tickets far neater!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><a href="http://www.sassandbelle.co.uk/product.php/3644/vintage-floral-suitcase-set-of-3" target="_blank">Floral Suitcases</a></i></div>
Bare with me here. They may seem like a ridiculous request on a birthday list but to convince myself I need them I have come up with two uses for these pretty kitsch cases! For one I need a new memory box. The one I have had since I was about 14 is full to the brim so the mini suitcase would be ideal for that. And secondly, the larger two are perfect for storing hair and make up products. See told you they were a necessity...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><a href="http://www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/clothing-427/jeans-446/mom-jeans-1758788/moto-baby-blue-mom-jeans-2683329?bi=1&ps=20" target="_blank">Mom Jeans</a></i></div>
I have been wanting these jeans for a while now but I am very much a skinny jeans kind of girl. I think they'll be great when the weather gets a bit warmer to wear with little flats and a cropped striped top.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><a href="http://www.allbeauty.com/productPaging.php?productId=1016131&ref=%7Badtype%7D&utm_source=%7Badtype%7D&utm_medium=FREE&cm_mmc=%7Badtype%7D-_-Free-_-Listing-_-1016131&currency=GBP&country=48&&gclid=CPm15fS9y7wCFQgOwwodYyoATg" target="_blank">Real Techniques Make Up Brushes</a></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about make-up but I do know that the Real Techniques brushes are amazing plus the whole blogging world rave about them so they must be good. I already own the Powder Brush and can't get over how soft it is so I feel I need to experience the rest of the collection!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><a href="http://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,37/1559686052" target="_blank">Office Jitter Bug Heels</a></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These shoes have been calling me for a while now but I already had a pair of nude heels that I loved so I couldn't justify it. Now, however, my beloved heels have suffered death by mud and dirt so it's definitely time to replace them. I love the height of them but the platform will make them easy (ish) to stride along in and the ankle strap adds extra support.<br />
<br />
So there are a few things on my wishlist, I also would like an electric toothbrush but that's a little less exciting for you all...<br />
<br />
Roll on March!</div>
</div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

How boring, eh? Well hold the judgement! One thing I do enjoy is seeing the world. As of yet I haven't traveled that far afield - I'd absolutely love to see America and Australia but right now I can't help but spend what could be my traveling fund on the delights I find on ASOS, Topshop and the like. I have seen the sights in 10 European countries though, and before February I'll be seeing two more.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll be celebrating two years with my dearest in January and we'll be spending the weekend in the beautiful Paris. We have both been separately before but with the short, and very reasonably priced journey on the Eurostar it was hard to resist! January can be quite a depressing month with the jolliest time of the year very much in the past and the unavoidable snow and cold on the way I'm so excited to spend the weekend filling myself up on crepes and cheese.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The obvious destination when wanting to avoid the bitterly cold and miserable England is of course, Iceland (?!) February brings four days in the land of the Northern Lights and the Blue Lagoon. I can't wait for this adventure which will include snorkeling in the Silfra Fissure in the National Park in Iceland and a hike around the Golden Circle. Re-read the first sentence of this post and this really doesn't fit my character but I need to be braver and this certainly is a step in the right direction! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm hoping Summer will take me somewhere warmer so I need to start saving my pennies. Until then I must go and build up my thermals and thick sock collection ready for my arctic climate adventure. I'll make sure to take many photos along the way...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It's coming up to that time when you have to decide what to wear to all the Christmas 'dos'. Or so I have been told by my friend, <a href="http://gemmarosea.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Gemma</a> who asked me today what I would be wearing to our work Christmas Party. I for one am a very last minute person so this seemed far too prepared in my books! I tend to decide an hour before I go out what to wear and then proceed to get into a stress trying to figure out what goes with the shoes I so desperately want to wear. <br />
<br />
For a lot of girls a staple on a night out is the classic LBD - teamed with a pair of killer heels and red lipstick you really can't go wrong. For me, however I'm always in a playsuit. I like the simplicity of having an all in one and not having the fuss of having to find a top that goes with bottoms - Plus the fact that you can dance around like a loon (or occasionally accidentally fall down) and not flash everyone in sight. Bonus!<br />
<br />
These playsuits are a nice alternative to the sparkly dresses and sequined numbers that will be gracing the clubs for the next months in the lead up to my favourite day of the year. They are all intricately detailed with just the right amount of glitz for this festive time of year.<br />
<br />
If you prefer to cover the tops of your arms - sensible really in this weather - then this Motel Rocks playsuit is ideal. The pale blue and white creates an almost frosty feel and would look complete with a nude pair of heels like these from Zara.<br />
<br />
Have an eye for more detail? Navy is in keeping with warm Christmas tones - flattering and beautifully detailed this tshirt-style playsuit is the one I will be buying. A chunky heeled ankle boot adds a toughness that works well with the delicate beading and will mean you can stay on your feet for hours!<br />
<br />
This black Topshop playsuit is a smarter and more sophisticated outfit choice. The shaped neckline and slimming colour is a good alternative for those who are used to the little black dress. It is still glamorous and with a slim heel your legs will be never ending!<br />
<br />
I can't wait to get all glammed up in a new outfit in the coming weeks but on the other hand I'm excited to buy a wonderfully over the top Christmas jumper! So many reason to love this time of year. Michael Buble Christmas album anyone?...<br />

In recent months I seem to have grown fond of jackets. I'm a woman obsessed. Leather jackets are a staple in a lot of people's wardrobes - men and woman alike so they are always readily available from high end to highstreet and stay on trend season to season.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
For a while now I have been looking for a reasonably priced leather which keeps its shape and can be smartened up or dressed down. All Saints do the most beautiful leather jackets but their prices make my purse teary. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
When I popped into my local Zara earlier this month I really didn't expect to buy anything as I had just had two consecutive expensive weekends in London and Newcastle but low and behold I found this beauty which I just couldn't leave without. </div>

I love the thick material and I'm like a kid in a sweet shop at the thought of styling it with jeans and Chelsea boots and also a pretty little skater dress with tights.<br />

Who said Winter was miserable?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11711092366603373545noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3050410850870066239.post-3057356556960002592013-09-11T10:21:00.002+01:002013-09-11T10:21:23.214+01:00Fresh MintLike any typical teenage girl (ignore stereotype if not applicable to you) when I was 14 I wanted a pink bedroom. I'm talking pink walls, pink curtains, pink lampshade. The works. As a 22 year old now living in the same bedroom I'm regretting my younger self's decision a little. Visiting home during my three years at university it was fine but now that I'm back with the parents I decided it was time for a change.<br />
<br />
Thanks to Pinterest and my Mum's interior design catalogues she leaves about the house I was dead set on having a mint green and cream bedroom - a smidgen more grown up yet relaxed.<br />
<br />
Deciding on the perfect shade of 'mint' was a mission. There are more shades than you could ever imagine and I liked every single one of them as I painstakingly painted tester blocks on the wall of my Barbie Palace. I finally decided on '<a href="http://www.dulux.co.uk/colour/ocean_ripple" target="_blank">Ocean Ripple</a>' as a sort of feature wall and '<a href="http://www.dulux.co.uk/colour/desert_wind" target="_blank">Desert Wind</a>' on the other walls. I'm also having a cream carpet which I'm hoping to keep clean of inevitable tea and coffee spillages.<br />
<br />
After heaving all my toot back in and trying to reorganise it in a neater fashion my room is now complete and I wanted to share a few photos to maybe inspire some soon-to-be-decorating minds or for you to simply be nosy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YG89IFzEbYo/Ui-d2d7povI/AAAAAAAAAeY/o61vWwJC9uI/s1600/Cushions.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YG89IFzEbYo/Ui-d2d7povI/AAAAAAAAAeY/o61vWwJC9uI/s400/Cushions.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Elephants are my favourite animals and I like the rugged old effect of the map on this cushion from Habitat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6SpFCvEpRX4/Ui-dubzyaDI/AAAAAAAAAeM/Kyy4EUEKQMc/s1600/owl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6SpFCvEpRX4/Ui-dubzyaDI/AAAAAAAAAeM/Kyy4EUEKQMc/s400/owl.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
My cute little owl from a little shop in Oundle. He is just the most adorable little thing and strangely enough I found his twin on my holiday in Portugal. A sneak peak of the mint feature wall behind him.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Tmzbz9Uiuw/Ui-d1qFEwjI/AAAAAAAAAeU/cQ4jV8SWQr0/s1600/Drawers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Tmzbz9Uiuw/Ui-d1qFEwjI/AAAAAAAAAeU/cQ4jV8SWQr0/s320/Drawers.jpg" width="240" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a1tao5iWgYA/Ui-evl9FxRI/AAAAAAAAAek/X9aY8bjEmxQ/s1600/FLOWER.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a1tao5iWgYA/Ui-evl9FxRI/AAAAAAAAAek/X9aY8bjEmxQ/s320/FLOWER.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love this storage unit from Ikea. It sneakily hides all the stuff I own that is too messy to be on display the whole time - nail varnishes, books, old school work, hats, scarves...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The vase is an old school milk bottle which I found in the kitchen. A nice twist on the usual glass vase and the lovely pink flowers go perfectly with the white.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak into my new little bedroom. I still need to add things to the walls to bring a bit more life to the cream colour but I am very pleased with how it has turned out.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
As sad as it to realise the nights are drawing in and sandals are becoming less and less appropriate, it's also a comfort to know that soon we can wrap up warm in layer upon layer of cosiness. Time is nearly upon us to drag out those wooly jumpers which take up so much room in the wardrobe - Admit it, they fall on you too when trying to free up some space for bikinis and summer dresses.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If the thought of winter fills you with dread, fear ye not, I have a way of celebrating the upcoming season and of course it involves some retail therapy. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When I think of the classic trench coat, <a href="http://uk.burberry.com/store/womenswear/trench-coats/london/prod-38860991-long-cotton-gabardine-trench-coat/" target="_blank">Burberry</a> springs to mind. Their beautiful designs and classic detailing have me drooling whilst their price tags send me running for the hills. My Dad actually owns a Burberry trench coat from decades ago but sadly it is a few sizes too big so I can't take it under my wing. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For a few years now I have been eyeing up buying my own trench coat but have never found the right one - or rather have never had enough spare cash to splash out on a good quality one. This year I have been more prepared and have done my research. I have found a number of great options in a whole spectrum of prices and in a range of designs.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>1.</b> This Mango design is definitely my favourite that I have found thus far. The colour is just right - sounds petty but they come in so many shades you end up lusting over one in particular - and the length is perfect as it is long enough to keep your derriere warm on cold Winter walks. At almost £70 it sounds a lot but when I think back to the more expensive coats I have had over the years they are definitely a good investment to have, lasting longer and more importantly keeping you warm.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>2.</b> This black option is very smart, sophisticated and more appropriate for someone who commutes as it won't show the unavoidable stains and marks you are bound to encounter. Again, the length is great and would look amazing teamed with a bright bag and thick black tights ready for those cold mornings.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>3.</b> A shorter design such as this Mint Velvet one is perfect for a more casual occasion. The above-the-knee length is also good for petite women as it is less likely to swamp them. A chunky knit scarf will add the texture to this more laid back suggestion.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>4.</b> Finally, this BooHoo find is a fabulous price and still has the smart elements a trench coat needs. I love the colour of this coat as it could be worn with anything from smart office wear to jeans at the weekend. This is a brilliant piece at a bargain price.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Until I save up for my own Burberry trench coat any of these lovely options will most definitely do! Which one do you like best?</div>
</div>

People who spring to mind include, Olivia Palermo, Emma Watson, Mollie King, Harry Styles...Wait, what?!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On my lunch break at work I popped in to New Look for a little browse and spotted this adorable <a href="http://www.newlook.com/shop/womens/tops/black-heart-print-shirt_283809709" target="_blank">heart print black shirt</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I had seen a similar design in Topshop a few months previously but at £38 I resisted the temptation, and now I'm glad I did. The New Look piece was half the price. Bargain! Later on when I looked on The Mail Online (kills many a bored hour) I was surprised to see two completely opposite people wearing the designer version of my sweet little shirt. Those people being Mr Styles and Victoria Beckham. For once I'd bought into a trend without even realising. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They have both been spotted wearing the new craze first showcased by Burberry at London Fashion Week AW13. Other pieces to fall in love with include this heart print dress with leather collar and the same print on a fur coat. Just slightly amazing.</div>

I feel like this could be a Marmite trend, love it or hate it. However, I'm super happy with my purchase and can't wait to style it with my dark jeans and brogues. Worryingly similar to Harry?</div>

I'm a jeans girl through and through but recently I have been drawn in by the tailored trousers and 'smart jogger' trend. Sadly, jeans aren't Summer appropriate but the British Summer can often be misleading and what looks like a warm day outside, perfect for ice cream, is actually too windy for a pretty skater dress. Printed trousers were my go to during the warmer months and I'm sure will continue to be as the leaves begin to fall.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The combined effortless but still sophisticated look has gone from catwalk to highstreet and is now available in Primark (of course they've caught on!).<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
These trousers are usually way out of my comfort zone but combined with a plain black tee or a smarter cami this is an easy to wear combination and a fun twist on my usual Jamie jeans look. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you aren't feeling brave enough to be bold in the colour stakes, go for a monochrome colour palette with styles like 1 or 4. The design is still eye catching on closer inspection but the black and white won't draw too much attention to you.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Feeling bold? Go for bright reds and purples or even a colourful pattern (2 and 5). These warm colours will take you through Autumn and are even Christmas appropriate. Win win!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
I've got my eye on a few more pairs for the near future. Saving's overrated, right?</div>

It seems that the hype around getting fit pushed me further back and I managed to get even lazier.<br />
<br />
My friends at work, <a href="http://gemmarosea.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Gemma</a> and <a href="http://marathonclare.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Clare</a> started a Juice Plus+ diet before the Summer started. They really stuck to it and their efforts certainly paid off while I sat back and watched on the sidelines with a can of Coke and a Crunchie. Still not enthused to join in.<br />
<br />
But I am now back and having eaten my own weight in croissants, ham and cheese in Portugal I have finally started my own healthy regime. Hallelujah. I'm still quite small but at 5 ft 4" I do need to keep in shape and eat healthily to make sure I don't become rotund (flashbacks to Freshers year at university). My boyfriend and I have decided to rid our summer chub together to keep eachother motivated. He actually plays rugby so isn't the slightest bit unfit but insists he must join me in my fitness quest!<br />
<br />
We have created an exercise regime consisting of eight 50 second exercises each separated by a 15 second interval. After a 10 minute rest (to catch my breath) we repeat the cycle again. I have only been doing this for a couple of days so far but it's surprisingly hard work and I find myself hurrying the time along. The exercises we have included are; The Plank, Mountain Climbers, Squats, Crunches, Russian Twist, Jumping Jacks, Burpees and Push-ups. Phew.<br />
<br />
<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<b>Russian Twist</b></h3>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xU6PB8sUmMA/Uh0nC0DsbZI/AAAAAAAAAbk/lX3UWtfiDnM/s1600/Weighted_Twist1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xU6PB8sUmMA/Uh0nC0DsbZI/AAAAAAAAAbk/lX3UWtfiDnM/s320/Weighted_Twist1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<br />
The <b>Russian Twist</b> (or 'weighted twist') was certainly Googled before I knew what the heck it involved. For this move to be completely worthwhile I feel like I need to invest in a 5KG <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/180711805196?lpid=83&device=c&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=83" target="_blank">Kettle Bell</a> to really get the most out of the routine. Who have I become!?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Znu9HHazprw/Uh0oNCtWeQI/AAAAAAAAAbw/WFJEA4mXlOA/s1600/Brupees.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Znu9HHazprw/Uh0oNCtWeQI/AAAAAAAAAbw/WFJEA4mXlOA/s1600/Brupees.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
And don't get me started on <b>Burpees</b>. Horrendous invention but I certainly feel the burn and actually feel so good when I have completed a round of them. Once you get the hang of them they are so simple (if painful) and no other exercise works as many muscle groups in one go as they do. Definitely an exercise to build a love-hate relationship with.<br />
<br />
<div>
You're probably wondering why I'm doing all this now when my holiday has been and gone (sob sob). I actually read this quote on Twitter</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oEmUpBC68sY/UhTe7qVjOqI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/5f0BwmI5o_g/s1600/fit-is-not-a-destination-it-is-a-way-of-life.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oEmUpBC68sY/UhTe7qVjOqI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/5f0BwmI5o_g/s400/fit-is-not-a-destination-it-is-a-way-of-life.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As cringe as it may be, it made me think that although there isn't anything in particular that I want to tone up for it shouldn't stop me from getting off my butt and getting my fitness levels up. Instead of purely aiming for one particular date, I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep my body in a shape I am constantly happy with.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll let you know how I get on...</div>
<div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Any kind of retail therapy is right up my street but recently I have swapped ASOS and Zara for the likes of Homebase and Ikea. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'm giving my bedroom a bit of a makeover and seeing as the colour scheme is going from Princess pink to neutral mints and creams I needed a few accessories that were in-keeping with the theme.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Map</i> - I need to jazz up one of the cream walls I'm having and have chosen a large world map to bring some life to it. Since igniting the travelling bug in me last Summer I decided that I would like to physically see where I have been and where I would like to go in the future. This wipe-clean map is ideal for planning my next trip and it will also handily bring some more colour to my room.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Cushions</i> - Every bedroom needs a large number of cushions. I don't care that they take ages to take off at night and then replace again in the morning, they make a bed look so cosy and inviting - I'm all about the comfort! I've decided to go for a range of random cushions rather than matchy-matchy to create a rustic boutique feel.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Owl Candle</i> - I've already got two little owl ornaments but an owl combined with a candle, I mean who can resist that? I promise I won't become a crazy owl lady.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Bedside Table</i> - I stumbled across this small bedside table on <a href="http://www.thewhitelighthousefurniture.co.uk/" target="_blank">The White Lighthouse Company</a> and I'm so glad I did. My room is quite small so I can't have too much bulky furniture. The drawer and two baskets will hold everything I might need mid-sleep and plenty of room for the 3 books I usually have on the go.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What would you buy if you were re-decorating your room? </div>
</div>
